Our trip to MOTAT
This week we visited MOTAT - It was a rather exhausting but fun filled day. Needless to say we got to see a lot of toys.
On Friday we recorded this podcast so you can see some of the interesting things we saw on the trip.
We saw a spinning top and we wondered if it was like the one you use to play with Mr Wood?

We also got to watch spinning tops in action - look at the video below

Sonny Bee
When we went to the singing assembly we were spotted by Sonny Bee as a class that was trying really hard to sing the songs even though we didn't even know all the words!!!
'Sonny Bee' spent a week in our classroom and enjoyed learning with us. Sonny Bee watched over us all week and was always keen for a cuddle. See us cuddling 'Sonny Bee' and look out for Mrs Elliot. She is a student teacher who spent a week with us and will visit us again next term.

Making toys at home
Flynn has been busy making toys at home. He brought them in to share with us. We all enjoyed using his fishing rod with a magnet on it - and tried hard to pick up the fish (made from the plastic lid of an ice cream container with a paper clip). Thanks for sharing this neat toy with us Flynn.

Flynn also showed us a toy kite he made with his Dad. It was made with ice cream sticks, paper, string and plenty of cellotape. It's great to see us exploring the toys that we can make and have fun with.

Not a box by Room 6
This weeks shared book was called 'Not a box' by Antonette Portis It's a fantastic book as the main character has fun showing you that a box is not a box when you use your imagination - it can be anything you want it to be from a car to a robot. We decided to use the programme KidPix to show you all what we decided the box could be. We all started with the same box image on KidPix and then drew our own drawing.

Week 4 Term 2 2010
It has been yet another busy week in room 6.
Mr Barnes brought in his favourite toy to show us - We were in awe of it - as we watched it go around and around. Mr Barnes is very fond of his toy having bought it 30 years ago in Singapore.

He has looked after it for 30 years making sure that it is always put back in its original box.

Watch this video - We just loved watching Mr Barnes favourite toy and we thought you might too.
Mrs Rennie brought in her favourite toy - it is a doll she was given from Santa when she was five. It's now 73 years old. It has a cloth body and porcelain arms and legs.

It would great if you could tell us your favourite toy by leaving us a comment.

Week 3 Term 2 2010
We have had another busy week in Room 6. We started the week with a lovely Autumn walk - looking at the lovely Autumn tree just outside our classroom. We scrunched our way through the leaves, gathered them in our hands and then had a great deal of fun throwing them. Our faces say it all.

We went to our first session of badminton. Our coach was very impressed we could make our way through the obstacle course BACKWARDS!!!!

We continue our work on 'toys' and have been busy inviting some people into our classroom to show us their favourite toy. We sent our invitations by using e postcards and discovered this meant that the person we sent it to wouldn't be getting the postcard in the letter box but in their in box on their computer. We got a reply from Mrs Stewart our principal it looked like this.....

The photo below was taken by Flynn. It is of Mrs Rennie-Youngers favourite toy. She got given it when she was 5 years old from Santa. Her sister got one as well. Mrs Rennie-Younger's doll is on the right and is called Sharon. Her sisters doll - (Madeline) on the left is wearing the dress the dolls were wearing when they got them. As the dolls were 'twins' Mrs Rennie-Younger's mother had to write the dolls names on their feet !!!

We would love to know what your favourite toy was as a child. It would be great if you could let us know by leaving us a comment.

Week 2 Term 2 2010
This week we had our second table tennis lesson, learning to keep our eye on the ball / balloon. Just look at the concentration on these children's faces.

We also got to play a game which saw us concentrate so hard as we tried to keep the table tennis ball from falling on to the floor by blowing it back across the table.

At the end of the lesson Flynn played a little table tennis with our coach. We captured this on video. We are very proud of Flynn - a very impressive effort from a 5 year old.
