Week 10 Term 3 2010 -

It has been a very exciting week - Production week. On Tuesday and Thursday night we came back to school to perform 'Footprints in Story land' to a packed audience. On Monday we performed to the local kindergarten's and Wednesday to the rest of the school. It's been a very exhausting week and we are all looking forward to the holidays.

Week 9 Term 3 2010 -

This week we had been busy preparing for our production of 'Footprints through story land'. Room 6 are bears in the production so we have been making masks to wear and have had to try on our costumes. We can't wait until next week when we can show our family and friends our dance - our time to shine on the stage.

Carol (Blake's Nana) has worked with us on the computer this term as we sorted the photos we had taken of man made and natural features. We used the computer programme 'inspiration' to show our learning. Click on each image to enlarge it.

Week 8 Term 3 2010 -

This week we had ROC (Respect our community) day. It was a fun filled day where we all tried to walk to school. Maxx the pukeko walked with some of us. We were put into teams across the school to play games and do activities. We had so much fun.

The new sandpit cover

The finishing touch to the sandpit was made on Thursday - a new cover. Austin took these photos of the cover being attached. Thanks Austin for taking sure great photos.

Week 7 Term 3 2010 - The sandpit is open

The exciting news this week, is that the sandpit is finished and that we had a little ceremony to open it. Mr Barnes (our careftaker who upgraded the sandpit) was given the honor of cutting the ribbon and Mrs Stewart our Principal was the first to dig in the sandpit with a spade.

Room 6 got to play in it before school and at morning tea. You can tell by the looks on our faces how much we enjoy the new sandpit. Thanks Mrs Barnes

Week 6 Term 3 2010

Mr Barnes continues to be very busy improving our sandpit. This week he added trailer load after trailer load of new sand. We went out to watch him. We decided it was a lot of hard work and wondered how many shovel loads of sand he moved from his trailer to the sandpit. We can't wait to play in it - we are hoping it might be opened next week!!

Book reviews

Every week we look forward to going to our school library. Last week Callum, Austin and Stephanie got to take home a brand new book to review. This week they talked to Mrs Sutherland our school librarian about the books and she put together these reviews. They can also be seen on the library blog.

Creatures in the garden

In class we have explored this activity - finding creatures in their environment and then having to put them back. Have fun.

Week 3 Term 3 2010

This week we looked at our school environment. We went outside and took some photos of what we saw. Look at the stunning photos Meli, Mahad and James took.

The new sandpit

We have been watching with interest as Mr Barnes works on improving the sandpit.

Jorja took this photo the day Mr Branes drove his car into our playground to drop off some builders mix.


With the builders mix Mr Branes made two new steps. We then watched with interest as Mr Barnes brought in the new fence that will surround the sandpit.



We watched as Mr Barnes put in one of the fences, he had to use very large bolts that cost $21 each and he had to put in 19 of them.



We think our sandpit is looking great and we look forward to the day Mr Barnes tells us that the sandpit is ready for us to use.
Thanks Mr Barnes for all the work you are doing to make our sandpit a better place to play.

Week 2 Term 3 2010

This week we were very busy preparing for the assembly we presented to the school with our buddy class. It was a lot of hard work and a lot of fun. Thank you to all of you who were able to come and support us on Friday by attending the full school assembly.


One afternoon we looked through our lunch boxes -


grouping what we found into four groups - fruit, paper, bread and crackers, gladwrap and wrapper. We then ventured outside in the windy conditions to plant our rubbish !!!!!



We are going to make some predictions about what will happen to the rubbish and what it might look like when we dig it up at the end of the term.

Week 1 Term 3 2010

Welcome back to Term 3. Our theme for the term is: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle as we look at the environmental footprint we are making.

To begin this unit of work off we have started by looking at what an environment is. We read the text Mrs Wishy Washy - so started by looking at what we would expect to see on a farm and what Mrs Wishy Washy had to have on her farm to make it a great place for the animals to live. We painted some pictures to make a display of what we have learnt. - Look out for a photo of this next week.

Stephanie and Jade worked with Carol - (Blake's Nana) using the computer programme 'inspiration' to collate and then sort images of things they thought they would find on a farm.
