Butterfly house - Great news

Why did we have to leave our classroom in such a hurry you ask?

Well you see, Mr Barnes appeared at our classroom door and told us some very exciting news that our precious butterfly was emerging from its chrysalis. We quickly put on our hats and raced out the door and this is what we saw. It was so exciting.

As it's wings dried it has moved around the butterfly house. On close inspection we have discovered it is a male butterfly.

5+ a day

November has been 5+ a day month. We have been trying to eat 5 servings of fruit and vegetables each day. We made posters to convey a message about what we had been learning. When we made our posters we had to make the following decisions -

The direction of the paper (landscape or portrait)
The background colour of the poster
The message on the poster
What fruit and/or vegetables we would draw
The colour of our handprint
Where on the piece of paper we would put the fruit and vegetables.

You see more goes into making a poster than meets the eye !!

At Friday's assembly some of us wanted to show our posters - We are so proud of them.

Butterfly house

It has been all go in the butterfly house this week and it has been so EXCITING.

On Monday we looked in the butterfly house and at first we couldn't see our budding caterpillars. Then we spotted a beautiful chrysalis hanging from the swan plan. Mr Barnes came along and told us to look up - and sure enough there were two caterpillars. One had stuck itself to the netting, the other had crawled all the way to the top of the wooden post and was sitting there.

On Tuesday the caterpillar on the net had turned into a chrysalis and the caterpillar on the wooden post was hanging in the letter J.

On Wednesday the caterpillar on the wooden post had created a chrysalis.

Butterfly house

Arriving back from holiday we were pleased that our caterpillars have grown well over the break. On Friday this caterpillar lost its way!!! We put it carefully back on the swan plant.

Can you spot our chubby caterpillar hiding on the plant?

Mrs Rennie-Younger found this butterfly while on holiday and thought it would look great in the butterfly house. What do you think?

The plants in the butterfly house have grown so well over the break. The cosmos plants are flowering, making the butterfly house a great place to sit and watch our budding caterpillars.

Keeping ourselves safe

On Thursday Constable Harwood joined us in room 2 and talked about how important it is for all of us to know our full names, our address and phone number. We need to know this information to help to keep ourselves safe. Constable Harwood also talked to us about being proud of who we are and what we are good at. We passed around a mirror and shared the things we are good at.
