Weekly update - week 9

This week we have been having fun exploring magnets and discovering what they can stick to.
Taylor and Deborah found they could hold the pen up as the magnet was attracted to the spring inside the pen!

Aesop discovered that the magnet on the whiteboard could stick to his little magnet and together they looked like a mushroom!

Simaima found that she could hold the scissors up using the little magnets.

Alina found that she could pick up not just one staple but a large number of staples.

The art of print making

Over the past few weeks we have been exploring the art of printmaking. We started with making handprints and turning these into fish - using a thumbprint for the mouth of the fish.

These beautiful fish are on display in our classroom.

Windmills -

Miss Rall our student teacher made some windmills with us on Thursday and holding them we found we could get them to move very slowly if we pushed air into them by blowing.

However on Friday we discovered the wind does an even better job of pushing our windmills !!!!! What fun we had. Watch the videos and join in our fun.

Weekly update - week 4

Book week was a lot of fun.
We all brought to school one of our favourite books to share with each other.

We put a collection of our written work in the library for other people to read.

On Wednesday we had the greatest fun when we went to see Stu Duval a New Zealand author, cartoonist and captivating story teller.

When he drew a series of cartoons - laughter filled the air.

He also drew a picture and told us a story about why possums stare at car lights.

On Friday some of us dressed up for the book parade. The photo below shows us standing with Miss Rall,a student teacher who will be working in room 2 for four weeks.

Weekly update - Soccer

This week we had a session with some soccer coaches. These sessions are always action packed and loads of fun. We had to do some interesting things at soccer e.g. We had to balance a ball on our nose.

We had to balance a ball on the back of our neck. This is very tricky and Pia was very skilled at doing this.

Watch us in action -

Weekly update

During week 2 of this term Neve and Emily from the school garden group visited our classroom and explained how the worm bin worked. They were great teachers.

They explained that -
worms don't like plastic, bread, ham or orange peels and that you have to spread the food evenly over the three bins

from the worm bin - they collect the liquid and make worm tea which they sell

the children in the garden group water the school garden and that they grow the most amazing vegetables.

Neve very kindly cleaned out our class worm bin and we are now trying really hard to only put food scraps in it that the worms will like.

Thanks for teaching us Neve and Emily.

A worm house

During week one we read a shared book about a worm house. During the week we looked at this interesting website about worms. We learnt that worms have five hearts and a very small brain as well as what they like to eat and where they live.

Mrs Frazer made a worm house with the children in room 1. She kindly brought it in to share with us and told us a lot more interesting facts about worms. Thanks Mrs Frazer.

We had a look at our worm bin and with our new found knowledge decided we were putting a lot of things in the worm bin that the worms wouldn't like! We are going to be a lot more careful with what we put in it from now on.

We also went over to the school garden to see the compost and worm bin. That's where our worm bin would be emptied into when we put the right things in it!

Some of us thought it was a little smelly!!
